When I got back stateside from Patagonia in January 2014 the ski situation in Alaska looked grim. Skiers in Anchorage were audibly depressed when I talked to them over the phone and the forecast didn’t hold much hope.

So, the logical conclusion was to postpone my return home as long as possible and enjoy the stellar snow conditions in the lower-48. I spent a week at Steamboat, ten days road-tripping through Colorado skiing in Summit County, Snowmass and Crested Butte and then after a couple of beers at Twisted Pine Brewery in Boulder, a multi-state ski road-trip took shape.

I joined two great girlfriends and drove from Colorado to Bozeman, Montana and then on to Leavenworth, Washington. We skied backcountry as the avy conditions allowed. But mostly we enjoyed some serious generosity from our awesome friends at Bridger Bowl and Stevens Pass.
